Influencer 101: How to Respond to Your DMs

A vast majority of the practices find themselves frequently encountering a rather peculiar situation – the incessant bombardment of “influencers” sliding into their direct messages, eagerly proposing collaborations. It has become quite the norm, one might say, for these individuals to reach out with great enthusiasm, hoping to merge their brand or online presence with that of these practices.

In today’s age of social media dominance, where digital influencers hold significant sway over their dedicated followers, it is not surprising that they actively seek out opportunities to collaborate with various businesses in order to amplify their exposure. The allure of influencer marketing lies in the potential for increased visibility, brand recognition, and ultimately, revenue growth.

However, this phenomenon is not without its challenges. Practices must exercise caution and discernment when considering collaboration proposals. Scrutinizing an influencer’s authenticity, relevance, and alignment with the practice’s values and target audience becomes crucial.

How do we respond to these “influencers?”

First & foremost, your mentality needs to change from being excited to SKEPTICAL. This is a BUSINESS transaction. They are proposing a partnership to post content, in exchange for free services in RESULT of NEW BUSINESS

Here is the ideal response to send – feel free to copy, paste and save as an automated message on your Instagram.

“Thank you NAME OF INFLUENCER for reaching out! We would love to explore the option to partner with you!

If you wouldn’t mind sending over your email address, as well as a screenshot of the first page of your INSIGHTS on your Dashboard over the *the last 30 days. We will send you a copy of our Influencer Agreement & set a follow up call to discuss DELIVERABLES.”

Lets break it down:

INSIGHT OVERVIEW – This will tell you 1) How many accounts have been reached 2) How many content interactions (likes & comments) & 3) Total number of followers.

Why do I need this information?

Because Instagram is SO watered down with fake followers, fake comments, fake likes, insights will give you a quick glance into the reliability & validity of their profile.

More followers does NOT mean more exposure

DELIVERABLES: What you’re asking THEM for! Stories? Reels? Static Posts? Tik Toks?

PRO TIP: If they don’t want to send their insights, that is a HUGE red flag. Do NOT waste your money on something that is not measurable.
